I don't know what this is, but suspect it might be the base of an old lamp post.

Arncliffe is a working class suburb in the inner south of Sydney, approx 10 kms (12 minutes by train) from central Sydney. It's never going to make a list of Sydney's most fashionable suburbs (though it was once - 150 years ago!) It's where I've lived for the past 22 years, and I love it, so I want to share some of its quirky bits, history, and, yes, beautiful parts, with whoever is interested.

What you suspect is an old lamp post is actually the remains of a Sewer vent pipe these were installed by the Water Board just after WW1 and where made from steel that was melted down from captured German Artillary Pieces brought back Europe at the end of the war
